Are SPACs the new trend for hi-tech and biotech start-ups?

In the coming months, we will see an increasing number of tech companies going public via Special Purpose Acquisition Corporation (SPACs), rather than through the traditional IPO process (BigCommerceVroom and Lemonade) or via Direct Listing (Spotify and Slack). Nikola (NKLA), an electric truck maker and a potential competitor to Tesla, was one of the first to take the SPAC route and now CuriosityStream, which streams documentaries, is going public via the same mechanism (per The Information). The SPAC trend is showing up in Biotech as well, with this SPAC being a great example, with the promoters coming from the VC world. Given the frothy public markets, it’s a great time for companies to go public, irrespective of the route they take to get there.
